Week 2 Game Recap: Score- Other Team 7 Flashback’s 6

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.” Bill Shankly, In Sunday Times (UK) Oct. 4 1981

Dear friends and teamates…..as in typical weekly fashion, it is time for me to write the weekly blog. After losing by a point this past week to a team that we should have easily dominated, this loss (or any loss if you call yourself a competitor) has to leave a pit in the stomach. :(

While I struggled to come up with offensive highlights, there were some brightspots.

I definitely take some accountability and bear some of the blame for our lack of preparation and organization. I know this is only flag football, but as competitors, we have to look ourselves in the mirror and say….”did we give it our all and play our best”????

The Positive:

  • We stuck together and never pointed figures or began to bicker; which is very common amongst undisciplined and immature flag football clubs or any team for that matter.  This is a true sign of maturity and good chemistry amongst teammates. Great job sticking together guys.  As we face more adversity in the weeks to come, our chemistry and brotherhood will most definitely be tested. I  am betting that this will not be a problem for this group!! As in the Inwood Buccaneers mantra…..”One team….One Family!!!”. Vaughn, that one was for you!! (Nice TD Run)
  • We had a chance to win the game with under 2 minutes to go. All you can ever ask for is a chance!! We should hope all our games are that competitive and come down to the wire. The tight ones are just a lot more fun and definitely more memorable. Play to win!! Not, not to lose. Given that chance again, I bet that we score and win the game with no time remaining.
  • Turnovers!! We won the turnover battle w/ three interceptions. Frank (w/ 2 in 2 games), Carl D (nice return) and Joey Mazz (Nice coverage on #4 in the flats). 80% of the time, if you win the turnover battle, you win the game. Great job!!
  • Defense!! The defense was definitely one of the bright spots of the day. Giving up only one (1) score and making the necessary adjustments mid-game which gave the offense more possessions & ample scoring opportunities.

The Negative:

  • This blog is all about the positive. Please refer to above :)

In summation, I think all we need to do here is make a few minor adjustments offensively and get our play calling in order . Outside of that, I am very bullish on the “Flashbacks” and would bet the house on us’!!! What I will say is, until the offense gets going, special teams and defense need to be more than stellar. PLAYMAKERS MAKE PLAYS!! If you get an opportunity to make a play on defense or special teams, MAKE A PLAY!!

See you next week. BTW, I encourage feedback and commentary on this blog. You can contribute and post comments below. Thanks, Louie D

    Guys, Tough loss!
We had no business losing that one.

Let’s get the kinks out early.

If the offense can talk before Sunday would be great.

Please get to the field an hour earlier to go over some plays.

I will have the schedule out by Wed.

    Till later
